Online Therapy

What is Teletherapy?

“Teletherapy is the online delivery of mental health therapy services via high-resolution, live video conferencing.” Research has shown that teletherapy is just as effective as face-to-face therapy, and in some cases, even more successful.” Online therapy is a convenient and discrete method of receiving mental health services. It also has allowed people to have increased access to high-quality therapy. Finally, teletherapy allows you to feel more comfortable and less stigmatized in discussing issues, conflicts, and/or mental health concerns. Online therapy sessions are provided through a HIPAA compliant telehealth platform.

Teletherapy works best for:

  • Individuals who are comfortable with technology

  • Those who prefer online counseling

  • Individuals who have a comfortable, private space to attend sessions

  • People living in rural area

  • People with good internet connection and access

  • People with physical or mental health limitations

  • Those who have limited transportation

  • Those who have limited time to commute to an office

How to prepare for your teletherapy session

  • Do not engage in teletherapy while you are driving or participating in other activities needing your full attention. The session will be terminated if I determined that conditions are not safe.

  • Appointment location should be appropriate, safe, and private.  Please limit background noises and make sure you have adequate lighting whenever possible.

  • Try to arrange a time when you are not caring for your children. However, if that is not possible, understand that caring for children may be disruptive to your treatment session, but we can deal with it the best we can.

  • Please ensure that you, your child, or other individuals that might be seen on camera are fully dressed and wearing proper attire for the appointment as if you were going into an office.

  • Check your internet connection, speakers or headphones, and video to ensure all is in working order.  To best ensure privacy and confidentiality if there are other people in your home, you may want to use headphones with a microphone during the session.

  • To avoid technical difficulties, please make sure your computer has been restarted prior to the session, that your browser is up-to-date and regularly clear your cache.

  • To avoid interruptions, please put your device on Do Not Disturb mode or do not answer phone calls, texts or access the internet during the appointment.  When you get notifications, it does sometimes disrupt the connection.

  • Login to the session a few minutes early to ensure you are ready to begin at the scheduled time.
